WARMING calls on students and professionals from the fields of architecture, planning, and design to create and imagine the future of our built environment as it responds to our world’s greatest challenge.

Challenge

WARMING competition participants are asked to propose new or adapted architecture that addresses issues of global warming. Participants are free to experiment and explore the subject – designs can be of any program, any scale, and on any site.

Participants may propose strategies that prevent the rise of global warming or strategies that react to the changing world we will inhabit. Participants may also take a combined approach:

• PREVENT – designs and strategies can address issues such as renewable energy, recycling, sustainable farming, alternative transportation, or many others.
• REACT – designs and strategies can address issues such as sea level rise, droughts, wilderness fires, severe weather, habitat destruction, or many others.
  

Guidelines

WARMING is open to all designers and disciplines. Participation is encouraged from architects, planners, and all problem solvers who are looking to take action against climate change.

Teams may be comprised of one to four members from similar or interdisciplinary backgrounds. Past projects can be adapted and submitted to the competition. Projects that have received recognition in other competitions are not permitted for submission to the WARMING competition.

Submission Materials

• Four(4) 8″ x 10″ (20.32cm x 25.4cm) graphic representations formatted landscape and (1) 8″ x 10″ project text summary (under 250 words) formatted landscape.
• All materials are to be submitted as a combined PDF document.
• Graphic representations may not include text other than number labels.
• Graphic boards will be reviewed by jury members alongside their respective text summaries, where number labels may be defined.
