Architectural competition organized by the associations Betocib,
CIMbéton and the Fondation École Française du Béton, in partnership with
the association AAIIA and under the patronage of the Ministry of
Culture.
DESCRIPTION
ORGANIZATION OF THE COMPETITION
The Concrete School Trophy invites future professionals to question
the aesthetic, technical and environmental qualities of concrete.
It is divided into 2 categories: the PFE category and the Studio
category and is open to all students of French schools of architecture.
In the PFE category (End of studies projects), it reveals the young
graduates of architecture schools, and proposes a special mention to the
double degree architect-engineer or engineer-architect or to a team
composed of architects and engineers.
In the Studio category, it invites students in the process of
studying to explore the material concrete through free plastic
expression.
The Concrete Schools, PFE and Studio Trophy sponsors and offers all
candidates visibility at the beginning of their professional lives.
Thanks to its multiple variations, concrete occupies a dominant place
in architecture and offers great freedom to designers, both
aesthetically and technically.
Although a century old, concrete is a
young material. The material of choice in the 20th century, it has
played a major role in the development of modern architecture. Because
of its universal character, this continuous and polyfunctional material
adapts just as well to organic architecture as to rationalism or
minimalism. The richness of its plastic and structural potentialities,
which are still relevant in the 21st century, deserves to be explored
continuously.
This is why, in order to make the younger generations aware of the
intrinsic qualities of the material and to encourage the development of
innovative architectural thinking in its use, the associations Bétocib,
CIMbéton and the EFB Foundation have created an annual Concrete Trophy
that calls on the imagination of architecture school students.
This competition also aims to help students develop their thinking
and make their ideas known in the field of architecture. It offers them a
first professional platform.
The award ceremony for the 10th edition of the Trophy will take place in January 2022 at the Maison de l'architecture IDF.
PFE CATEGORY
The PFE category rewards PFEs (end of study projects) whose
architecture and constructive performances emphasize the use of concrete
materials. All end-of-study projects may be submitted, regardless of
their scale or program, as long as they meet the specifications.
Students who have defended and validated their PFE in the 2020 and
2021 sessions in a French school of architecture or who have obtained a
dual architect-engineer diploma may enter.
The projects entered in the Trophée béton Ecoles are based on the
student's PFE, which can be completed to meet the specifications.
In order to meet the specifications, candidates may develop certain
technical aspects of their final project (PFE), before or after
obtaining their diploma. If they wish, they can bring in additional
skills by forming multidisciplinary teams. Moreover, students enrolled
in a bi-curricular program between an architect and an engineer can also
participate in the competition.
STUDIO CATEGORY
All architecture students in the course of their studies (Bachelor 1,
2, 3 and Master 1) during the academic year 2020-2021 may enter. They
will submit a free plastic interpretation (drawing, painting, collage,
model, sculpture, photo) of an emblematic work of concrete architecture
built in the world in the XX or XXI century (see rendering section).
JURY AND RESULTS
Composition of the jury
The jury meets twice, corresponding to the two phases of rendering.
The president of the jury is an architect.
The jury is composed of about ten members, including a majority of architects, an engineer, a client, and a foreign personality.
Proclamation of the results
The results will be announced on the day of the jury, at the Maison de l'architecture en Ile-de-France, in January 2022.

Le Trophée de l'École du Béton invite les futurs professionnels à
s'interroger sur les qualités esthétiques, techniques et
environnementales du béton.
Il est divisé en 2 catégories : la catégorie PFE et la catégorie
Studio et est ouvert à tous les étudiants des écoles d'architecture
françaises.
Dans la catégorie PFE (projets de fin d'études), il révèle les jeunes
diplômés des écoles d'architecture, et propose une mention spéciale au
double diplôme architecte-ingénieur ou ingénieur-architecte ou à une
équipe composée d'architectes et d'ingénieurs.
Dans la catégorie Studio, il invite les étudiants en cours d'études à
explorer le matériau béton à travers une expression plastique libre.
Le Trophée des écoles du béton, du PFE et du Studio parraine et offre
à tous les candidats une visibilité au début de leur vie
professionnelle.
Grâce à ses multiples variations, le béton occupe une place
prépondérante dans l'architecture et offre une grande liberté aux
concepteurs, tant sur le plan esthétique que technique.
Bien qu'âgé
d'un siècle, le béton est un matériau jeune. Matériau de prédilection au
XXe siècle, il a joué un rôle majeur dans le développement de
l'architecture moderne. De par son caractère universel, ce matériau
continu et polyfonctionnel s'adapte aussi bien à l'architecture
organique qu'au rationalisme ou au minimalisme. La richesse de ses
potentialités plastiques et structurelles, toujours d'actualité au XXIe
siècle, mérite d'être explorée en permanence.
C'est pourquoi, afin de sensibiliser les jeunes générations aux
qualités intrinsèques du matériau et d'encourager le développement d'une
réflexion architecturale innovante dans son utilisation, les
associations Bétocib, CIMbéton et la Fondation EFB ont créé un Trophée
Béton annuel qui fait appel à l'imagination des étudiants des écoles
d'architecture.
Ce concours a également pour but d'aider les étudiants à développer
leur réflexion et à faire connaître leurs idées dans le domaine de
l'architecture. Il leur offre une première plateforme professionnelle.
La remise des prix de la 10e édition du Trophée aura lieu en janvier 2022 à la Maison de l'architecture IDF.
CATÉGORIE PFE
La catégorie PFE récompense les PFE (projets de fin d'études) dont
l'architecture et les performances constructives mettent en avant
l'utilisation de matériaux en béton. Tous les projets de fin d'études
peuvent être présentés, quels que soient leur échelle et leur programme,
dès lors qu'ils répondent au cahier des charges.
Peuvent concourir les étudiants ayant soutenu et validé leur PFE aux
sessions 2020 et 2021 dans une école d'architecture française ou ayant
obtenu un double diplôme architecte-ingénieur.
Les projets inscrits au Trophée béton Ecoles s'appuient sur le PFE de
l'étudiant, qui peut être complété pour répondre au cahier des charges.
Pour répondre au cahier des charges, les candidats peuvent développer
certains aspects techniques de leur projet final (PFE), avant ou après
l'obtention de leur diplôme. S'ils le souhaitent, ils peuvent apporter
des compétences supplémentaires en formant des équipes
pluridisciplinaires. Par ailleurs, les étudiants inscrits dans un
programme bi-curriculaire entre un architecte et un ingénieur peuvent
également participer au concours.
CATÉGORIE ATELIER
Tous les étudiants en architecture en cours d'études (Bachelor 1, 2, 3
et Master 1) durant l'année académique 2020-2021 peuvent s'inscrire.
Ils présenteront une interprétation plastique libre (dessin, peinture,
collage, maquette, sculpture, photo) d'une œuvre emblématique de
l'architecture en béton construite dans le monde au XXe ou XXIe siècle
(voir rubrique rendu).

jury est composé d'une dizaine de membres, dont une majorité
d'architectes, un ingénieur, un maître d'ouvrage et une personnalité
