The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize is now launching a milestone edition. 2020 will be the 3rd year of support for the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize by the Trinity Buoy Wharf Trust and the 25th consecutive annual exhibition since 1994.

To mark this special year, the call for entries is going international, and is now open for artists from the UK and around the world. Other new addition: the Working Drawing Award, which focuses on the role of working drawings in art, architecture, design, engineering, manufacturing, science and more, will have a dedicated selection panel and its own display within the exhibition.

The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize has an established reputation as the UK’s most important annual exhibition of drawing. Led since its creation by Professor Anita Taylor, Dean of Duncan of Jordanstone College of Art and Design at the University of Dundee, the Prize is known for promoting artists and drawing practitioners, celebrating excellence in contemporary drawing, and championing the art form’s role and value.

For 25 years, the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize has provided a platform for artists and a catalyst for their careers. 2018 First Prize winner Caroline Burraway said "The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize is a highly prestigious prize and it is hugely important for me to have won. The Prize allows the work to reach a wide audience as it travels around the UK.”

According to Shelly Tregoning, who was awarded the 2019 Second Prize, “winning a prize has brought my work to people’s attention and I have gained a new audience as a result. Gallerists and magazines have approached me and overall I have more confidence in my work.”

Penny McCarthy, last year’s Evelyn Williams Drawing Award winner, also described the Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize as “a career highlight”, adding that “Taking part in the shows is a fantastic professional opportunity – for anyone at any stage. The prize money and increased exposure are something that all artists need to make work.”

The following prizes will be awarded in September 2020 at Trinity Buoy Wharf:• First Prize of £8,000• Second Prize of £5,000• Student Award of £2,000• Working Drawing Award of £2,000

The Trinity Buoy Wharf Drawing Prize 2020 exhibition will include around 65 drawings shortlisted for the awards and will tour nationally in 2020 - 2021.
