The ninth Next Landmark international contest gets under way “AN EDUCATIONAL GARDEN IN FIORANO MODENESE”

Launched on April 14, 2020 the ninth international online contest Next Landmark, promoted by Floornature architecture and design portal with the support of Iris Ceramica Group Foundation.
This latest call for submissions invites young architects and designers to take on the challenge of redeveloping external areas at a nursery school, focusing on inherent issues in quality of the space, the relationship between the individual and their surroundings, and urban regeneration.
The 2020 contest, entitled “An Educational Garden in Fiorano Modenese”, is aimed at a new generation of architects who graduated between 2010 and today. The winner will be announced in June 2020 and awarded a scholarship for a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Design at SOS - School of Sustainability, Bologna, Italy.

Promoted by architecture portal Floornature.com with the support of Iris Ceramica Group Foundation and SOS - School of Sustainability, MCA Architects, the ninth Next Landmark international online contest, aimed at young architects and designers from architecture and design disciplines who graduated between 2010 and today, gets under way.

The free-to-enter 2020 contest, entitled “An Educational Garden in Fiorano Modenese”, comprises redesigning external areas adjacent to “Casa Coccapani” nursery school in the province of Modena (IT). The project is part of larger building renovation and seismic upgrading works recently carried out on the building.

The ideas contest seeks innovative solutions which take into account various aspects relating to mindful and sustainable design. Designing areas for growth and learning is a feat of immense social responsibility. It is here that future generations are educated; in these places their behavior and attitude to shaping a better future are nurtured.

The 2020 call for submissions invites you to reflect on how a closer relationship between the individual, community and natural space, can be a means of urban redevelopment, driving social cohesion and well-being.

The “Casa Coccapani” outdoor area should be designed as a welcoming play area for learning, exploring and discovering the surrounding world, while ensuring beauty, accessibility, sharing and inclusion for its young guests.

The contest will close on May 30, 2020, the final deadline for submitting entries. The winner will be announced on June 12, 2020 and awarded the prize, a scholarship for a Master’s Degree in Sustainable Design at SOS - School of Sustainability, Bologna, Italy.

The award encourages professional education guided by environmental and social sustainability principles for those who will design future projects.

The jury panel for the 2020 Next Landmark contest comprises Federica Minozzi, CEO of the multinational Iris Ceramica Group, architect Mario Cucinella, Founder of MCA Architects, Massimo Imparato, Director of SOS School of Sustainability, Paolo Schianchi, lecturer in Visual Communication and Interaction Design at the Istituto Universitario Pontificio Salesiano, Venice, Francesco Tosi, Mayor of Fiorano Modenese and Don Antonio Lumare, Parish Priest in Fiorano Modenese and President of Foundation Coccapani.
