Description

This is a Call to Artists With a $500,000 budget, an artist will be commissioned to transform a three-acre lawn in downtown Jacksonville into work of public art for the citizens and visitors of Jacksonville. The city seeks a design that is a dignified, memorable and iconic work of art in front of the Duval County Courthouse and links the urban center with the historic African American neighborhood of LaVilla. Three artists will be paid $15,000 to assemble a team and to imagine the new urban space with a visually dynamic pedestrian ground plane that might include elevated/suspended structures providing day shade and night light. The designs will be presented widely for public comment prior to selection in the spring of 2021. For clarity, an artist is defined broadly and includes visual artists, architects, landscape architects, engineers, graphic designers, etc. www.culturalcouncil.org
