Following the great success of the 1st international online international design competition in 2019 with the theme “Future City: Smart design for the post-pandemic world”, the annual contest launched by the Institute of Smart Cities and Management – University of Economics Ho Chi Minh City collaborated with nearly 20 partners is held the second time in 2021 with the theme “SMARTCITY+”

It is the first time in human history, we have no idea what the world will be like in the next 30 years (the writer Yuval Harari). The first half of the 21st century will be the most important in the history of the human race because of all challenges we face from an amazing leap in technology and the urban challenges in a rapidly urbanizing and globalized world. In this phenomenon, smart cities will not just be a trend but also become a must-have. But How Smart cities will deal with urban challenges and How integrated technology and other fields can be applied to solve the urbanization crises?

???? This year’s contest with the theme “SMARTCITY +” aims to call for ideas to propose designs to enhance urban identity towards smart cities. Ideas need the integration of technology, materials, aesthetics and spatial organization combined with research on local cultural factors, adaptability, globalization, and vision for future urban environment.

The applicants can submit their concept related to the follow topics: Public space & environmental design, Urban transportation & city connectivity, Urban space for residential design, Urban space for residential design, Mixed-used building & complex, City for all, Staycation city, City with strong identities…

???? Competition is open to university students all around the world with a total prize value of up to $ 4,200!!!
???? You are free to either extend these existing areas and transform them, or propose a new design on a site of your choice.
???? Be bold and think outside the box. How can architecture, urban design and planning go beyond the traditional concept of urban public spaces.
???? Explore the possibilities of urban intervention in public space that can lead to positive changes on a larger scale
